PROJECTS

This is our basic plan and outline for projects for the year in order of chronological occurrence:

1. Food Drive - December 12-15; Award: December 16th - We are definitely going to continue our food drive which was very successful last year to raise meals for families in Moore County Schools which are not guaranteed where their next meals are coming from during the holiday season, and this food drive's profits directly go towards the BackPack Pals of Moore County by way of the Food Bank. We have the potential to make an indelible impact on the community which is why we encourage you so wholeheartedly to participate. We are in dire need of boxes for this event, so if you have boxes available, please contact an officer about donating that box to the food drive. We also plan to be partnering with other clubs and organizations such as NHS so that you can get points for contributing.

2. Write for Rights - December - Write for Rights is a campaign whereby Amnesty International chapters around the world concentrate their efforts for about 10 days on writing letters to leaders around the world asking for the release of prisoners of conscience and victims of injustice. We will be hosting a couple of meetings during which we will just write letters, and even though this will probably take place simultaneously with the food drive, the food drive should be already planned and in full swing so that we can concentrate our time on Write for Rights.

3. Bake Sale - Spring - We would like to have a bake sale fundraiser in the spring for which members and officers will make sweets to be sold at the school.

4. Human Rights Speaker - Spring - We would again like to try to have a human rights speaker who can spark interest in the school and educate students and community members about the issues of human rights.

5. Friend to Friend - Spring - We are working on contacting Friend to Friend to determine how we can support our common cause of combating domestic violence, and we will have more details about how we will be supporting Friend to Friend in the future once we get more information.
